Embroidered Panaches

I have embroidered some panache´s and there are more to do. Those will be aplicated in to a wallhanging. I love my new embroidery ring. It is expecially great when I use metal thread.

 

I bought boxes for my threads. I just wonder why I did not do that long time ago.

Ylinen Viipurintie Ruotsula-Tervaskangas

Niskalantien itäpuolella tie jatkuu ensin Ahopellonkujaa pitkin ja siirtyy sitten kärrypolulle.

 

Tie jatkuu vasemmalle kohti pohjoista

 

 

Alkuun tie on melko leveä

6-tie on 1987 peruskartassa hyvin paikoillaan

 

   

Parempi tie päättyy uuteen kääntöpaikkaan 6-tien eteläpuolella.

 

Ennen 6-tietä on sähkölinja jossa tiepohja häviää. Nuolen kohdalla on Tykkimäen liikennemerkki jonka länsipuolelta tie on kulkenut.

 

Viipurintie nousee nuolen kohdalta 6-tien pohjoispuolelle

 Tie jatkuu leveänä. Kalliossa näkyy kärryjen kuluttamia uria.

Kauppakeskus Veturin taakse rakennetaan pian lisää. Vanha tie on vielä jäljellä.

Viipurintien linja kulkee 2012 rakennettu liikenneympyrän halki ja jatkuu 6-tien eteläpuolelle nuolen kohdalta.

Kouvolan keskustassa tie on jäänyt monin paikoin uusien rakennusten alle mutta kuvaan ja julkisen kuvat tielinjalta lähitulevaisuudessa.

Kuvat alkavat Kymijoen länsipuolelta Keltistä nykyisen Kymen paviljongin eteläpuolelta. Pari päivää ennen kuvausta myrsky oli kaatanut puita.

Joen rinteeseen on kulunut ura jossa tie kulkee

 

Kymijoen itäpuolella tieura on rinteessä pahasti metsittynyt ja sille on kaatunut paljon puita.

 

Rinteen päällä Venäläisten Redutin vierestä tie näkyy taas hyvin.

Crown tourney A&S

I withdrewn tapestry away from the competition after judges suggested me to improve documentation of it. I had made a mistake by thinking that book, written in Finnish is a valid part of documentation. Now I will make a new better documentation and made a new entry from it later. I do not know yet, where it will happen.

Longbow won the competition, although it had not a perfect documentation either.

Three items in A&S competition tomorrow crown tourney

I will have three items in Royal Artesan competition this weekend:

1. Tapestry of Mars and Silvia size 250x150cm, project time nearly 4 years
2. Long bow made from yew. Project time 13 months
3. Map from finnish Gulf. Project time one month.

I am interested to get others opinion. Bow was already voted as a most beautiful two weeks ago in archers meeting beauty contest.

Book of "weaving a middle age tapestry" is finally done

Unfortunately book is available only in Finnish. I will put it here for everybody to download free. I have the copyright for the text, but since I do not see that I could ever get money back from printing this book, I think it is better to let people whom are interested, to have it free.

Tillering is almost ready. I still need to put tips in to bow.

Tillering the bow

I have been tillering the bow. It starts to be quite good already.

 I ´have also steam bended it to get it straight. It was bending little too much to the side. In picture you can see it pressed to turn it little over the straight line after steaming.

I finally get the back of the stave in to same growth ring.
Next I marked the line of the belly. Width is already close of the correct, or the level where to begin tillering.

old projects again

Now, when the tapestry is done, I have continued to make a bow and to embroider a silk wallhanging.

I took a better picture from tapestry. Size of the TV is 44". I have also written last pages of the tapestrybook. I still have to make a documentation of tapestry, while I still remember things better.

Eternal project is done

It took 3 years and 10 months to weave a 250cm x150 cm tapestry.

Tophem is done

I made a 20mm tophem in approximately 15 cm pieces.
Next I will fix few mistakes before I cut the work from loom.

Image is finally done

I wove this rainy day from morning to 7 pm and finally got the image ready. There are still few smaller things to do before I will get the tapestry hanging on my wall.

But now I will open a sparkling wine... Almost four years work!

Finally I reached end of the work. Now I have 0-7 cm to do.

Quite much weaving. Not other A&S works.
Only 5-7 cm to weave.

April update

I thought that I have not woven as much as in last months. Well... picture proves something else.
There are 12-15 cm more to weave..

I had problems to see how to weave face of Lady in Waiting. So, I printed face in to paper and draw my best guess in to it. Cartoon quality is quite bad in some places.

March update of eternal project

I have had a 10cm/month speed in last 2-3 months...

In last months I have had problems with the tension of warps. I have had to put more and more sticks in to the loom, to fix the problem.

Quite much done in last month:

More weft

I got this week hopefully the last skeins of weft for the eternal project.

One skein of dark green wool. I wanted to have two dark hues, but the other was already fourth hue, which was out of production, during this project.

I also got three drums of Kreinik's metal thread, size #12 tapestry, color: pewter. It will be used together with the silver, in the blade of halberd.

Bow making

Over the last months I've been slowly reducing the sap wood and following a growth ring on the back of the German Yew stave. 2/3 of it is already done and I only do it about 10-15 cm in a day. I have so many other things to do, that this project is neglected.

Eternal project January 2014

Last weeks I have vowed a lot. I try to get work done in next spring.

From the size of my son I understand how long this project has taken.

Eternal project August 2012

On vacation I had few days, I wove really much. Normally I have woven 1-3 hours every day, but daddy's little helper does not allow me to do it anymore. Elias is especially interested in the bobbins. In September we will move in to a new house, where I hope I will have a place to weave in peace.

Eternal project - tapestry

The project began in August 2010.

It is a tapestry 150cm high, 250cm wide.
Origin of the cartoon is a Tapestry 5.1 in book: La Tapisserie Flamande, Guy Delmarcel.
Tapestry woven in the Brussel, in Atelier de Francois Geubels 1560. Wool, silk, gold- and silver thread. Size 355x410 cm. Original work is nowadays in Wien, Kunsthistoriches Museum.

Purpose of the Blog

I made this blog to present my Arts and science projects more effective. I still have a static webpage, which has all the done works. I will put the link in to this site.
In last years it seems that most of the content has moved in to the blogs.

I am a member SCA, Drachenwald, from 2002. Title Court Artisan is there dedicated for the ex Royal Artisans.
Name of my SCA persona is Rakonczay Gergely.
